The displacement picture is increasingly driven by a combination of conflict, climatic shocks and limited livelihoods, rather than a single cause. IOM’s 2026 Emergency Trend Tracking is specifically monitoring conflict-related displacement as well as anticipated climate-related displacement associated with the strong El Niño phenomenon. The monitoring has been expanded to include Hargeisa, Borama and Burco, alongside other locations in Somalia.
